HIGH POINT -- Homer Herbert Holden, 80, died Saturday, October 30, 1999 at High Point Regional Hospital. Homer was born in Silvermine Creek, Swain County, N.C. on January 1, 1919, the son of John Riley and Emiline Wilson Holdem. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was awarded the American Theatre Service Award, the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Hubert Montgomery, Hobart Riley, Oscar Abraham, and John Kermit Holden; and his sisters, Elsie Palistine Holden Mashburn, Izetta Verdell Holden Wilson, Jettie Esibell Holden Gibson, and Florie Mae Holden. Surviving are his wife, Mary Hassalyn Holden, of the home; one son, Jerry Clark Holden and his wife, Marinella, of Winston-Salem.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 2 at 2:00 p.m. in the Harold C. Davis Funeral Chapel. Burial with military honors conducted by the Randolph County Honor Guard will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. (Edited by Jeff Lovelace.)
