Jovita Maria Castro Fitzgerald, born in 1881 on the Castro Ranch in Contra Costa County, was the third child born to Patricio Juan Castro and Henrietta Marie "Hattie" O'Neil.
She married Thomas John Fitzgerald (born in San Pablo) and had three children, Thomas John Fitzgerald, Jr. (1903-1973), Harriet Marie Fitzgerald Wahlander (1905-1996), and Jovita Elizabeth Fitzgerald (1907-1994).
She and daughter Jovita hosted several Castro family reunions in the 1950s and 1960s at their home. Daughter Jovita hosted another in the 1980s at the Castro-Alvarado Adobe in San Pablo. Daughter Harriet was the family genealogist. She produced a one-page lineage history of the Castros that is still referenced by family members more than 50 years later.
