Born December 14, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Margaret Hubener and Emmanuel Arthur Lippert. She was a graduate of Boyden High School, Brevard (Junior) College, and Catawba College. For many years she taught piano and violin in the home, setting her students on the path of a lifelong love of music. She was an elementary school teacher in the Rowan County Schools for over 20 years. Her love of music was further exemplified by her dedication to the Salisbury Symphony. She played violin in the initial symphony season and continued for thirty seasons without missing a single concert.
Mrs. Crowell was a faithful church member during her adult life. She loved playing the violin, singing in the choir and actively participating in many other church activities.
On September 7, 1945 she married Dwight Lowrance Crowell, Jr., who preceded her in death after 45 years of marriage. Also preceding her in death were two sisters, Edith Lippert and Ethel Albright, and a brother, Arthur Lippert.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Dwight L. “Larry” Crowell, III and wife Betsy, and Jean C. Christy; grandchildren, Elizabeth Crowell, Emily Weddington and husband Kurt, Ellen Poland and husband Stuart; step-grandchildren, Sondra Wilson, Donna Christy, Diane Renfrow; great-grandchildren, Eva, Ella and Coy Weddington and Justin Poland.
Private interment. Memorial service at John Calvin Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Kelly Brown officiating. Friends received after service in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to John Calvin Presbyterian Church. Summersett Funeral Home serving.
