Charles W. Jessop of Connersville, whose candy and popcorn stands were a familiar sight to Hoosier fair-goers, died in Fayette Memorial Hospital here late Saturday night after an illness of three months. He was 83 years old. Mr. Jessop perfected a butterscotch coating for popcorn which became known as Jessop Butterscotch Corn. He started on a small scale and it developed into a family business. The process has remained a family secret and often has been imitated. with other members of the family, Jessop started making the fair circuit several decades ago and had sold candy and popcorn throughout Indiana and surrounding states. He operated stands at numerous Indiana State Fairs and was one of the oldest concessionaires.
Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Ida May Jessop; three daughters, Mrs. Minnie Kuchler of Indianapolis, Mrs. Cecelia Mercer of Connersville and Mrs. Lucille Beer of Milford; three sons, Daniel H. Jessop of Knightstown, Charles W. Jessop of Cambridge City and Kurman Jessop of Milford, 15 grandchildren.
