Judith “Judy” Alford-Woods, 68 of Gause, passed peacefully from this life Saturday, March 26, 2016 after a lengthy battle with multiple illnesses. She was at her home with family by her side.

Judy was born in Gause, Texas, June 6, 1948 to Ada Valerie (Newcomb) and Oliver Franklin Alford. She was one of ten children. She attended Gause School and graduated from Hearne High School in 1966. Upon graduation, Judy married Robert Frank Braun of Rockdale and they had three daughters, Valerie, Christine and Brandy Braun. Judy lived a full and exciting life of travel, raising daughters, attending beauty school and business school. Her achievements included First Place in State Hairdressing Competition and later the Prestigious Eagle Award for outstanding performance in insurance sales.

Judy and Robert took separate paths and later Judy married William Lee Nicar. After years of relocating due to business opportunities, during this time Judy worked as an insurance sales agent for Bell County Farm Bureau in Temple and then for Smith County Farm Bureau in Tyler, she and William planted roots back in their hometown of Gause, after her retirement in 1994. William passed away May 14, 1999. During their years of marriage, as well as later in Judy’s life, she enjoyed traveling, hunting and taking fishing trips. Judy loved her life to the fullest until she fell ill and was physically unable to experience those things.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her daughter, Valerie Elaine Herod who passed away October 16, 2013. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Bill, Donnie, Johnnie and Jimmy Alford.

Judy leaves to treasure her memories, daughters, Christine Paige Cockrell of Gatesville and Brandy Leigh Reagan of Gause, as well as the loves of her life, her five grandchildren, Lacey J. Herod, Joshua Flake, Blaide Reagan, Colt Reagan and Dane J. Cockrell as well as many nieces and nephews who she adored as well as her sisters, Jan Willard of Gause and Sharon Barnett of Waxahachie and brothers, Thomas Alford of Livingston, David Alford of Gause and Mike Alford of Gause.

Judy was a true believer in our Lord Jesus Christ and enjoyed journaling her prayers, serving and being a blessing in any way she could. While she was well and she was able, she attended Milam County Cowboy Church in Rockdale.

A special thank you to the Gentevia Hospice Staff who assisted her daughter Brandy, grand boys and son-in-law Ray Reagan in her daily care. We are forever grateful for your servant’s heart and love for Judy.

Thank you also to our family who took time to visit and sit with Judy when her caretakers needed to be relieved, Jan Willard, Sharon Barnett and Dakota Ryan – you were truly angels from Heaven and a true blessing to our family, offering a helping hand and nights to allow us to get sleep. Caretaking is not for the faint of heart, and our family is very thankful.

Services for Judy are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2016 in the Milam County Cowboy Church in Rockdale. Burial will follow in the Gause Cemetery. Pastor Greg Spears of Milam County Cowboy Church will officiate. Visitation is 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2016 in the Milam County Cowboy Church.
