MAXINE ADELSON COHEN, 65, passed away on August 2, 2004, surrounded by her family. Born April 14, 1939, in Houston, TX, Maxine attended San Jacinto High School, and graduated from the University of Houston with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education. She worked in the family business, Filly's Men Formals, with her husband Filmore. After their retirement, Maxine served as the resident substitute teacher for Sienna Plantation Elementary School in Fort Bend ISD. Maxine and Fil loved being Jewish, and they passed their love of the Jewish culture and holidays on to their daughters and grandchildren. Maxine was a lifetime member of Mazal Hadassah. She dedicated her time to her synagogue and was the Sisterhood President of Beth Yeshurun. Maxine was the loving wife for more than 42 years of Filmore Clifford Cohen; proud mother of three wonderful daughters and their husbands, Nancy and David Cohen, Marci and Mark Kellner and Debbie and Rick Levinton; and adoring grandmother of six beautiful grandchildren, Benjamin and Annie Cohen, Leigh, Bradley and Sophie Kellner, and Molly Levinton. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Saline and John Weintraub; brother and sister-in-law Allen and Lynn Adelson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gilbert and Marilyn Cohen; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and friends. Maxine was predeceased by her parents, Sol and Ann Adelson. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 4, 2004, at Beth Yeshurun Cemetery, 1037 N. Post Oak, with Rabbi David Rosen officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Maxine's memory to Congregation Beth Yeshurun, Greenfield Chapel Breakfast Fund, 4525 Beechnut, Houston, TX 77096.
