DeKRYGER (Fremont) - Mrs. Lavina DeKryger, aged 70, passed away on Sunday afternoon, July 10, 2005 at Spectrum Health - Butterworth Campus. She was born May 15, 1935 in Hudsonville, Michigan to Henry and Marguerite (VanHeukelum) DeWeerd. She received her teaching certificate from Calvin College, and prior to starting her family she taught for five years. She later used her skills to nurture children at Fremont Christian School for 25 years. Lavina was an active member of Trinity Christian Reformed Church in Fremont, and she had also been very involved with the Fremont area Coffee Break program.

On August 8, 1957 she married Dr. Maynard DeKryger, and he survives her along with four children, Malcolm (Donna) DeKryger of DeMotte, IN, Jane (Dan) Visser of Holland, MI., Todd (Carolyn) DeKryger of Fremont, MI., Cheryl (Dan) Olson of Mililani, Hawaii; 12 grandchildren; two sisters, Crystal (Norm) Unema of Hudsonville, MI, Mary Jane (Will) Byker of Hudsonville, MI; one brother, Norman (Carol) DeWeerd of Lake Odessa, MI.

The Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 13, 2005 at First Christian Reformed Church in Fremont (721 Hillcrest) with Pastor Bob Pohler officiating. Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will also be at First Christian Reformed Church from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday (today).
