Connie J. Gazelle, 72, of Metamora, IL, formerly of Benson, died at 10:05 a.m. Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Connie was born Nov. 13, 1943, in Brighton, S.D., to the late Kennyth Hull and Corean Slaight Haines. She married Adrian J. "Jim" Gazelle Sr. on May 27, 1961, in Eureka. Jim preceded her in death in 2010.

Surviving are five children, Adrian "Jim" (Lori) Gazelle Jr. of Benson, Corean "Candy" (Charles) Fowler of Grove Spring, Mo., Teri (Vaughn) Pierson of Benson, Casey (Latasha) Gazelle of Phoenix, Ariz., and William "Bill" (Charlotte "Betsy") Gazelle of Hartville, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Richard (Marie) Haines of Sebring, Fla., and Karen Smith of Chandler, Ariz.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Dennis and Kenneth Haines; and a granddaughter, Rae Lynn King.

Connie worked at the Eureka Grain Elevator for more than 20 years, and went on to own the C & J Cafe in Eureka for six years until her retirement.

Connie kept a pet piglet when she was a young girl, which made her an avid collector of pig memorabilia throughout her life. Completing jigsaw puzzles, playing Bingo and collecting cookie jars also brought her joy.

She was a huge Elvis fan, loved roses, as well as camping and fishing with her husband. Connie loved people and made friends wherever she went, but her family was most important to her. She treasured time spent with her kids and grandkids.

A memorial service for Connie will be at the Meadow Valley Center at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington.
