Helen L. Weiss, 89, of Monticello, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2016, at IU Health White Memorial Hospital in Monticello.

She was born at home in rural Centerville, Indiana, on August 7, 1926 to Herman “Tony” and Ethel (Sittloh) Toschlog. She graduated from Centerville High School in 1944. Helen worked as a bookkeeper for Richmond Baking Company for ten years before becoming a homemaker. She also played softball on the Richmond Baking Company team in an all-girl softball league. Helen was a former member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority in Richmond.

On June 30, 1951, she married Robert D. Weiss at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Richmond. They would have celebrated 65 years of marriage in June. They moved to Monticello in November, 1964. Helen was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Monticello where she served on the Altar and Rosary Sodality. She was an avid bowler on the Monticello Women’s and Mixed Leagues for many years holding the office of Secretary/Treasurer several of those years. She earned many awards and had a lot of fun traveling around to bowling tournaments. She worked part time at the Monticello Herald Journal for a few years. She was a volunteer reader at Woodlawn Elementary school and also volunteered at the Red Cross Bloodmobile and Our Lady of the Lakes sponsored Bingo at the nursing homes.

Helen is survived by her husband, Robert; her sons, Tony (Joyce) Weiss, Lynchburg, Virginia; Joe (Tammy) Weiss, Monticello; Gary (Cecelia) Weiss, Carmel; and daughter, Becky (Ted) Crowel, Monticello. Grandsons, Rocky Weiss, Reston, Virginia; Pete (Eve) Crowel, Delphi; Bradley Weiss, Denver, Colorado; Brian Weiss, Indianapolis; Brady Weiss, Fort Wayne; Corby Weiss, Reston, Virginia; Scott Weiss, Carmel; and Caleb Weiss, Monticello. Granddaughters, Molly (Justin) Milcarek, Lafayette; Hannah (Grant) Losiewicz, Monticello; Rachel Weiss, Carmel; and Kaily Weiss, Lynchburg, Virginia. Great grandsons, Dane, Ellis, and Calvin Losiewicz, Monticello; Andrew and Elijah Crowel, Monticello; and Luke Milcarek, Lafayette. Great granddaughters, Ren Milcarek, Lafayette; and Scarlett Losiewicz, Monticello. She is also survived by her brother, Irvin (Ruth) Toschlog, Richmond; sisters, Dorothy Teeter, Richmond; Hazel Sadler, Tallahassee, Florida; and Eileen King, Cambridge City. Also surviving is her sister-in-law, Jeanne Toschlog, Centerville. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Cletus Toschlog, Harold (Anna Barbara) Toschlog, Carl (Norma) Toschlog, and sister, Edith (Bernie) Hunt; brothers-in-law Calvin Teeter, Ray Sadler, and Walter King.

Helen looked forward to her weekly coffee outings with her special friends. She was very proud of and received much joy from her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm (EST) Friday, April 1st at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. The Rosary will be prayed at 3:45 pm. Visitation will also be from 8:30 am to 9:30 am, Saturday at the funeral home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am (EST) Saturday at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church with Father David Rasner celebrating.

Burial will follow at Riverview I.O.O.F Cemetery.
