Ida Mae Nutt, 86 years of age, of Salmon, Idaho, passed away surrounded by her family on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at the Salmon Meadows Care Center, where she was lovingly cared for by their staff and Hospice of Salmon Valley.

Ida was born on February 23, 1930 in Goshen, Ohio, the oldest of three children born to John and Amelia (Hill) Davis. She was raised in Goshen, where she attended school. Her father passed away when she was 18 years old. After her father’s passing, she helped raise her two younger brothers, Jack and Frank.

She attended Northwest Nazarene College in Colorado Springs, Colorado and traveled to Salmon, Idaho to visit her uncle, Harvey Davis, where he jokingly said, “I will introduce you to the poorest man in Lemhi County, so you won’t go home,” and introduced her to Thomas Ray Nutt. Tom told her he couldn’t get married until the spring. They were married on March 25, 1957 in Butte, Montana.

They lived in Salmon, Idaho, where their family included their five children: Thomas Leroy, Daniel Gene, Dale Ray, Rebecca Ann and Marilyn Sue. They lived in a two-room cabin behind the old sawmill. Their house was always full of extra children and many dogs and cats as pets over the years.

Ida was able to stay home with her children while they were young. She cleaned homes in the area. She enjoyed her flowers and always had a large garden. She would provide for her family by canning her fruits and vegetables, and always made the best pies.

Ida and Tom had a wonderful relationship and loved to play practical jokes on each other and their children, to their delight. She treasured her family and had a deep love for Jesus. She was a long-time member of the Assembly of God Church in Salmon, where she taught the primary Sunday school class for many years.

Ida is survived by her children, Tom (Diane) Nutt of Meridian, Dan Nutt of Clayton, Dale Nutt of Challis, Rebecca (Mike) Gabbert of Nampa, and Marilyn Nutt of Salmon; 15 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and brother, Frank Davis of Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Jack Davis.

Special thanks to all of the angels on earth that helped provide care over the years for Mom and Dad. Becky wishes to thank Lana Christensen for her support for many years.

Services will be held Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Assembly of God Church, 510 Bulwer, Salmon, Idaho, with viewing one hour before services.

Burial will follow on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, 10100 Horseshoe Bend Rd., Boise, Idaho.
