FRANKLIN, Tenn. - Maria B. Marr, 74, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at the Claiborne-Hughes Nursing Home in Franklin, Tenn., after a long battle with emphysema.

Born Aug. 5, 1926, in Cooperstown, she was the daughter of the late Captain Boris Wolkonsky and Catherine A. Wolkonsky, former teachers at the Knox School for Girls. Both her parents were refugees from the Russian Revolution and Civil War.

Mrs. Marr was a homemaker from the early 1960s through the 1980s.

Previously, she worked as a baby nurse at the New York Foundling Hospital and Church World Service in New York City.

She attended the Knox School and graduated from Williams Institute in the 1940s.

Survivors include a son, Paul F. Marr of Albany; a daughter, Susan E. Garrabrant of Thompson's Station, Tenn.; a brother, John Pentacost of Poolesville, Md.; two grandchildren, Alexandra and Thomas Garrabrant of Thompson's Station, Tenn.; one niece; and one nephew.

She was predeceased by her husband, Frederic H. Marr, in 1983; her mother, in 1992; and her father, in 1990.

There are no calling hours.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today at the St. Sergius Russian Orthodox Church, Valley Cottage, N.Y.

Burial will be in the cemetery of the Novo-Diveyevo Russian Orthodox Convent in Spring Valley, N.Y.

Memorial contributions may be made to a children's charity of one's choice or to the Tolstoy Foundation, 104 Lake Rd., Valley Cottage, N.Y. 10989. Correspondence to the family, especially the reminiscences of those who knew her, are welcome and may be directed to Paul F. Marr, Box 3254, Albany, N.Y. 12203.
