Doris Kahl, 79, of Aurora, formerly of Kaneville, passed away at Jennings Terrace on Sunday, May 18, 2014.

She was born in Aurora on April 6, 1935, the daughter of August and Minnie (Scheuring) Bohn.

Doris grew up in Sugar Grove and attended local schools. She graduated from Elburn High School with the class of 1953.

On May 29, 1954, she was united in marriage to Charles Kahl at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church. They began their new life together in Aurora for a time before settling back on the Kahl family farm in Kaneville.

When the family farm was sold, Doris and Chuck retired and moved to Aurora, where they enjoyed making memories with their grandchildren.

Following Chuck's passing in 2006, Doris continued to make her home at Constitution House.

She was longtime and faithful member of the Kaneville United Methodist Church in Kaneville.

Doris was a faithful card player in the Merri/Fems card club. Bingo was another way to pass the time, as well as being a "frequent flyer" at Harner's in Aurora, where the world's problems could be solved with a cup a coffee, a tasty pastry and good friends.

Doris also was an avid shopper and had an eye for bargains. Later in life, she went on trips with her children to Shipshewana in Indiana. Above all was the love she had for her family, but especially her grandchildren, who were the loves of her life.

She is survived by three children, David Kahl of Yorkville, Daniel (Sheri) Kahl of Kaneville and Pamela (John) Probst of Aurora; five grandchildren, Tiffany Probst, Michelle Probst, Kari (Michael) Moody, Charlie and Lindsay Kahl; three great-grandchildren, Ruben and Aryana Rosas, and Aaliyah McCall; many nieces and nephews, and a family of friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles "Chuck" Kahl; and six siblings, Richard, August, Robert, Emma, Mary and Donna.

Visitation and funeral service was held May 22 at Conley Funeral Home in Elburn. Private family interment will follow cremation at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her name. Checks may be made to the " Doris Kahl Memorial" and mailed in care of P.O. Box 66, Elburn, 60119. Tributes may also be forwarded to the same address or on the web at www.conleycare.com.
