Larry Ellis Killebrew

December 1, 1943 ~ May 13, 2023 (age 79)

Larry Ellis Killebrew, 79 of Germantown passed away early Saturday, May 13.

He was born in Martin, TN, on December 1, 1943, to Butler and Mildred Killebrew.

He grew up in nearby Sharon, TN, and enjoyed visiting the homeplace throughout the years. He graduated from Sharon High School, the University of Tennessee at Martin, and the U.S. Air Force navigation school. He served in the Air Force as a navigator on the KC-135 airplane. After his military service, he enrolled in the then-Memphis State University School of Law. He practiced law in Memphis with the Baker Donelson and Butler Snow law firms until his retirement in 2006. Whether cruising on his Harley or cutting grass with his John Deere mower, he enjoyed being outside. He hunted turkey and ducks, and he was a big fan of the Memphis Redbirds and St. Louis Cardinals baseball teams.

Larry leaves his wife of almost 54 years, Darlene Riggs Killebrew, his sister, Joyce Killebrew Oldham of Martin, and nephew, Neal Oldham of Apex, NC, and a brother-in-law, Joe Riggs of Jacksonville, FL. Many relatives and in-laws admired his easygoing personality and enjoyed hearing his stories. He will be missed. Larry was a donor to MERI through their Genesis program and hoped to benefit others.

A visitation and graveside service will be held at a later date in Sharon. Any memorials may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to the charity of choice. (Published by The Daily Memphian, Memphis, TN, on May 23, 2023.)
