"Once there was a tree, and she loved three little boys."
"... and she loved those boys very, very much--even more than she loved herself."
"And the boys loved the tree.......very much.
And the tree was happy."
- with apologies to Shel Silverstein, The Giving Tree

Clarice Catherine Regan Foerster, age 88, of Richmond, Va., and formerly of Asheville and Tryon, N.C., died on Feb. 25, 2016. A Catholic service will be held on Saturday April 2, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 909 Rennie Ave, Richmond. A celebration of her life will follow with family and friends. She was a loyal dutiful wife, vigilant wonderful mother and watchful (from a distance) grandmother. Fierce in her loyalty to her Church and country – which like her children and grandchildren–while not always perfect, but still hers, and for whom she poured out her daily prayers. She loved reading murder mysteries and travel. She was our trusted historian and keeper of the lessons of our family life that spanned two centuries. No whiners or quitters were allowed. Born on Feb. 18, 1928, she grew up on the Southside of Chicago, Ill., beloved daughter of CPD Detective Sgt. Timothy J. Regan and Sylvia Vesley Regan. She was raised Irish, an only child surrounded by loving grandparents, uncles and aunts, but always under the tutelage of beloved her Aunt Jo. She graduated from Mercy High School before attending Chicago Teachers College. A close family friend talked her into a blind date with a friend of friend -some sailor fresh off the big cruiser USS Fall River, lived over on the North Shore. He was Catholic, educated and had "winning ways' about him- and she married that young Urban M. Foerster Jr. on June 25, 1949, at St. Dorothy's Catholic Church in Chicago. His hard earned promotions took the growing family from Chicago, Ill., Appleton, Wis., Prairie Village, Kans., Minneapolis, Minn., and finally West Hartford, Conn. With the boys grown and scattered, they retired to Tryon, N.C, for many happy years until Urban died an early death on Sept. 5, 1994. She moved on to Asheville, N.C., after some time and then in October of 2015 was onto Richmond, VA and closer to family. She will catch up with Urb later this summer at St Josephs in River Grove Ill for their anniversary. He has been waiting patiently. I would not be surprised to see her pal Ringling as well. We are going to surprise them there with flowers and toasts! She bequeaths to this nation descendants who are educated, healthy and responsible citizens: her three sons: Mark Regan Foerster (Kathryn) of Lynn, Mich., Urban M. "Trey" Foerster III (Mary) of Iola, Wisc., and Kurt Timothy Foerster (Nancy) of Richmond, Va.; six grandchildren: Timothy Foerster (Gwen) of Alexandria, Va.; Sean Foerster, Columbia, S.C.; Elizabeth Kalina (Marc) of Durban, South Africa; Regan Foerster (Jenna) of Kalkaska, Mich.; Hope Porter (Aaron) of Richmond, Va.; and Cailin Foerster of Iola, Wisc; five great-grandchildren: Jackson Foerster, Brynn Foerster, Elliott Foerster, Charlotte Foerster, and Holt Foerster. And a host of nieces and nephews and close friends. Now it's our turn, keeping the flame alive for our children and grandchildren, to remember and go on, and pray for all whom we love as she taught us. We'll be seeing ya, Mom! Love you! Miss you! See you soon!

"I don't need very much now,"said one of the boys,"
"just a quiet place to sit and rest. I am very tired."
"Well," said the tree, straightening
herself up as much as she could,
"well, an old stump is a good for sitting and resting.
Come, Boy, sit down. Sit down and rest.
"And the boys did. And the tree was happy."
