Hannah Wood was born 20 Oct 1827 in Coshocton Co, OH to Peter and Hannah Bradford Wood, the sixth of their 11 children. Hannah grew up in Coshocton Co, OH with her siblings on the family farm. It was there on 16 Feb 1847 she married Garrett Walen VanScoder. Eleven children were born to them, only five of whom survived to adulthood.
Lemuel N (12 May 1847- 11 May 1928)
Lenard (3 Aug 1850- 12 Nov 1851)
George (27 Aug 1852- 10 May 1854)
Perry (20 Aug 1854- 24 Apr 1869)
Silas Charles (1 Nov 1856- 10 May 1938)
Nancy Jane (6 Mar 1859- 8 Jun 1914)
Hannah Margaret (6 Aug 1861- 28 Sept 1944)
Joshua Paskel (1 Jan 1863- 8 Sept 1864)
Mary Ellen (24 Mar 1866- 3 Mar 1867}
Rebecca Ann (25 Feb 1870- 23 Sept 1870)
Emma Wilhemina (5 Mar 1872- 27 May 1941)

In the 1850 US Federal Census, the family is located in Hickory, Schulyer Co, IL along with the families of two of Hannah's brothers, John and Nathan Wood. Perry's death record indicates that he was born in Louisa Co, IA in 1854 and there are land ownership records for Monroe and Wayne Counties, IA for 1855 and 1856, though no proof of residency. By the 1860 US Federal Census, the VanScoders are in Putnam Co, OH. At the time of Perry's death on 24 April 1869, the family was in Fulton Co, OH. It was there on 5 Mar 1872 that Hannah departed this life with the birth of her eleventh child, Emma Wilhemina. It is difficult to imagine the sorrow she endured from losing six of her 11 children and to depart this life knowing she was leaving her last newborn behind.
