Rev. Harold J. Billings, age 91, of Girard, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at Elmwood Gardens in Erie.
He was born June 6, 1924, in Allegany, New York, a son of the late Frank L. and Myrtie Morgan Billings.
Rev. Billings was a graduate of Allegany High School, Class of 1942, and Practical Bible Training School in 1945. He also attended Northwestern Schools in Minneapolis, MN. He pastored several churches including Hunt, NY for three years, Grace Baptist Church in Batavia, NY for five years, Perth Bible Church in Perth, NY for seven years, Forestville Baptist Church for seven years, and Girard Independent Baptist Church for twelve years. He also served as organist/pianist at Bethel Baptist Church in Erie and taught piano at Cranesville Christian Academy.
In addition to his parents, Rev. Billings was also preceded in death by his brother Gordon L. Billings. He is survived by his wife of over 70 years, Martha E. (Betty) Uber Billings; a son: Timothy Billings and his wife Janet of Lake City; a daughter: Debra Gilmore of Fairview; a sister: Virginia Tiller of Allegany, NY; three grandchildren: Deadra Clement (Steve), Jessica Koop (Adam) and Jason Billings (Taylor); as well as six great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main Street East in Girard on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. in Burton’s All Faiths Chapel with Rev. Clyde Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Girard Cemetery.
