Longtime ex-Hubbard woman was active in sports, politics
COLUMBIANA, Ohio -- Theresa Balakoff, Columbiana, formerly of Hubbard, died Wednesday morning, Feb. 27, 2002, in St. Mary's Alzheimer's Center -- Windsor House, Columbiana. She was 74.

Mrs. Balakoff was born Sept. 17, 1927, in Campbell, Ohio, a daughter of Michael and Ann Kraynak Kozak.

She was a lifelong area resident, living in Hubbard since 1959.

Mrs. Balakoff, also known as Terry, worked for Peoples, Lane and Rite Aid drug stores for 25 years.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Hubbard; and was a volunteer for the Democratic party and an election worker.

She also was a Hubbard Boosterette and was very active in sports and Little League baseball.

Her husband, John "Blue" Balakoff, whom she married Jan. 17, 1948, died May 16, 1995.

She leaves: two sons, Gary M. Balakoff and his wife Kathy, Orwigsburg, Pa.; and Gregory J. Balakoff and his wife Bonnie, Hermitage; three sisters, Ann Banyots and Helen Giba, both Youngstown; and Agnes Lekwar, Pittsburgh; and four grandsons.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Balakoff was preceded in death by three brothers, Lawrence, Michael and Joseph Kozak.
