Retired Sgt. 1st Class Alan Anthony Babich was born Feb. 13, 1944, in Teaneck, N.J., to Alexander and Emily Vaneck Babich.
He died Monday, March 7, 2016.
Funeral is pending at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin.
Alan joined the Army in 1964 and served 23 years. He served two tours in Vietnam. He was awarded the Humanitarian Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon-2, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Silver Service Star, Army Good Conduct Medal-7, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Meritorious Unit Commendation-Army, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and Overseas Service Bars-3.
Alan retired with the rank of sergeant first class and settled in Lawton. In 1996, he met and married Patricia Rose. He went to work at the Fort Sill Recycle Center in 2002 and retired Feb. 29, 2016.
His favorite hobbies were fishing and his dogs: Hercules and Ewock.
He is survived by his wife of the home; sister, Diana De Rosa of Snyder; stepson, Rick Finley and wife Cyndi of Lawton; one sister-in-law, Mary Ann of Ohio; two brothers-in-law: Daniel Dale of Kentucky and Wesley and wife Darlene of Kentucky; one grandson, Ryan Finley of Lawton; two nieces: Christine De Rosa of Lawton and Susan Duke of Snyder; and one nephew, Steven De Rosa of Lawton.
