THE PARIS NEWS, 3 Dec 1956

R.R. (Russ) Baker, 91, died in his sleep Monday night at home, 1106 Lamar Ave.

He was formerly president of the Baker Furniture Company then on North Main street.

Funeral services, Thursday at 10:30 a.m. will be held in Fry and Gibbs chapel, conducted by Neil Bozeman, Christian Science reader. Interment will be made in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mr. Baker leaves one daughter, Mrs. C.E. Weber, Talequah, Okla.; a grandson, Thomas Baker, Portland, Ore.; a sister, Mrs. Caroline Hildebrand, Dallas, and a brother, Dan Baker, Paris.

His wife, the former Miss Mollie C. Ferguson, whom he married at Sulphur Springs, 13 Aug 1882, died in 1934.

Born in Clarksville, 24 Dec 1864, Russell Raines Baker was a son of the late James H. and Ruth (Raines) Baker.

The family had moved here when he was four years old, and he afterward attended Prof. J.J. Richardson's school on Graham Street. He had lived in Paris ever since except for a few years when Willett Babcock and J.W. Rodgers, early day furniture manufacturers here, employed him as a salesman for a store at Sulphur Spring. He returned to Paris to open his own business, 14 Jan 1891, his son, the late Fred Baker, subsequently joining him in its operation, which continued nearly 50 years. Mr. Baker was a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, here; was long active in the Odd Fellows lodge which he joined 65 years ago, and was elected an alderman in 1932 for one term.
