Departed this life, January 21st, 1878, at his residence, in Banks county, Ga.,

Deacon James David, aged 78 years and 4 months, fifty years of which he had been a member and officer of Kandler's creek Baptist church. For near two years before his death, owing to severe affliction, he was unable to attend his church meetings, in which he had been a faithful worker for Christ so long.

Bro. David was truly one of the best men I ever knew; he was faithful, honest, pious, and modest; manifesting a zeal for Christ and the salvation sinners worthy of imitation, and possessing that charity which 'never faileth.'

In his death, his children and grandchildren have lost a faithful and affectionate officer; his neighbors a friend tried and true; his country one of her best citizens. But their loss is eternal gain. As a shock of corn, fully ripe, he has been gathered by his Saviour, in the garner on high. W. F. Stark
