Dorothy "Joan" Vanaman, age 84, of Cape May passed away Sunday, April 12, 2015 surrounded by her large loving family.

Joan was born and raised in Cape May and was a life-long area resident. She is the daughter of the late Allan Robson and the late Dorothy (nee Ranshaw) Robson-Leaming. Joan was a 1949 graduate of Cape May High School, she rode horses growing up on her family ranch (the Circle R Ranch) with her brothers and sister, worked at the A&P while raising her children, and later became the upholstery teacher at the local Vo-tech School (a job she loved doing for over 30 years). She attended the Seashore Community Church of the Nazarene.

Joan was preceded in death by her brothers: Allan ("Bud") & William Robson; her sister Shirley Schumann, and her sons: Donald & Thomas Vanaman. She is survived by her husband of 64 years Robert Vanaman; her daughters: Brenda (Andy) Ridgway, Pamela Vanaman, & Alice DiCola; her sons: Robert(Paula) Vanaman & David (Kim) Vanaman; her 16 grandchildren; and her 23 great grandchildren.

There will be a funeral service at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at the Evoy Funeral Home, 3218 Bayshore Rd, North Cape May, NJ 08204; where friends will be received from 9:00 to 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Cold Spring Cemetery, 780 Seashore Rd, Cold Spring, NJ 08204. The family suggests donations in Joan's memory to a charity of the donor's choosing.
