John Amos Neff was son of David Tennessee and Lydia (Pennywitt) NEFF. The family moved to Dandridge, Jefferson County, Tennessee cir 1837.

John Amos was CSA Soldier, 1st Tennessee CAVALRY, Co H (pvt)

He married Sarah Inman in Jefferson County, Tennessee 1856 and they had three known children:

Mary Ella NEFF (1857-1920}
Charles David Neff (1860-1910)
Samuel Henry Neff (1861-1921)
