Larry LaVern Phelps, 81, died Sunday, March 13 at his home in Pocatello.

Larry was born October 28, 1934, in St. Anthony, Idaho, to William F. and Hazel Phelps. He and his two younger brothers grew up in Ashton, Idaho, where they attended North Fremont schools.

He married Dorothy Rae Jensen in 1952 and they made their home in Ashton and later in Rexburg. They had four children and later were divorced. In 1977, he married Margaret Chaney in Twin Falls, Idaho, and in 1980, they moved to Pocatello and made their permanent home there.

Larry had many interests and both his working career and hobbies were reflective of that. He owned and operated service stations in both Ashton and Rexburg, worked for North Freemont County as a road grader, was a crop duster, served in the National Guard, became a flight instructor and taught many people to fly, worked as a computer operator and later as a sales representative for the Hoover Company and finished his career with the Idaho Transportation Department in Pocatello.

His hobbies included woodworking, carpentry, and firearms; but the main love of his life was flying. He owned and maintained several airplanes during his life. As a child, he built model airplanes and took that up again after he could no longer fly.

He is preceded in death by his son Lonnie Phelps, his parents, and his two brothers Bill and Dick Phelps.

He is survived by his wife Margaret; children Larry J (Ann) of Bakersfield, California, Lyndon (Sherryl) of Kansas City, Kansas, and Connie (Ron ) Guy of Palm Bay, Florida; sisters-in-law Elizabeth (Rick) Ingraham of Hamilton, Montana, Janet Clawson Phelps of Hoquiam, Washington, Janet Metcalf Phelps of Boise Idaho; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The family would like to especially thank those who had become so important to Larry in his final months: The people at Maag Prescription and Medical Supply, Flicker Physical Therapy, Home Helpers, Alliance Home Health and Hospice, and Drs. Steve Krawtz, Blaine Olsen, and Eric Romriell. Their loving care will not be forgotten.

Funeral services will be Monday, March 21 at 1:00 p.m. at the Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 North 12 Avenue. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Victor Cemetery in Victor, Montana, on Tuesday, March 22, at l:00 p.m.
