HILL, Rev. J. Paul, 91, of Buchanan, went home to be with his Lord, Sunday, January 19, 2003. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander and Martha Robinson Hill, his wife, Agnes Hoots Hill and a grandson, Randall Allen Hill. The Rev. Hill began pastoring in the Western District of the North Carolina Conference following his graduation from Central College, now known as Southern Wesleyan University, Central, S. C. in 1933. He was ordained in 1934. He served as a minister under the appointment of the North Carolina Western District for over 70 years. Over 50 years of his ministerial experience was in the field of evangelism. He was commissioned as a general evangelist by the Wesleyan Church during which he traveled throughout the U.S., Canada and several other countries. He pastored the following churches in the Western North Carolina / Virginia Districts; Wilmington, North Carolina Wesleyan Church, Radford, Virginia Wesleyan Church, Hickory Chapel, High Point, N.C., Hayworth Memorial Wesleyan Church, High Point, N.C., First Wesleyan Church, Roanoke, Va. and Morgantown, N.C. He was instrumental in organizing several new Wesleyan Churches during his ministry. Surviving are his sons, Dr. James P. Hill, Jr. and wife Olga Marie, Indianapolis, Indiana, Jerry D. Hill and wife Gladys, Buchanan; grandchildren, Shaun Hill and wife Sharl, Jenny Arrington and husband Paul, Darrin Hill and wife Dr. Beth Leffel, Robin Wright; great-grandchildren, Sarah, Jonathan, Robbie, Maki and Ruthie Hill, Chad and Kelly Arrington, Sydney Wright. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Randall Allen Hill Scholarship Fund c / o Southern Wesleyan University, P.O. Box 1020 Central, South Carolina 29630. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 22, 2003 at Emanuel Wesleyan Church by the Rev. Michael Ennis. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Simpson-Tharp Funeral Home, 366-0707.
