The Kingsport Times January 1975:

Mrs. Lydda Bell Snapp Barker, 90, died 10 p.m. Thursday at Holston Valley Community Hospital after a short illness.

She was the widow of the late Andy Barker of Pressmans Home. She moved to Kingsport in 1944 and for the past 20 years she had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Dewey (Love) Snyder of Rosewood Dr., Kingsport. She was a member of the Pleasant View Baptist Church.

Besides her daughter, she is survived by four sons, Dave Barker, Pressmans Home, Andy (Jack) Barker, Rogersville, Ace Barker, Church Hill, Hugh Lee Barker, Kingsport; three step-sons, Kyle Barker, Kingsport, Hershell Barker, Bowling Green Ind., Charlie Barker, Speers Ferry, VA; two step-daughters, Mrs. Mack (Ruth) Odom, Rogersville, Mrs. James (Kate) Wellis, Dayton, Ohio; one brother, McKinley Snapp, Brazil, Ind.; two sisters, Mrs. H.P. (Lillie) Johnson and Mrs. Sarah Winegar, both of Ellensburg, Wash.; 42 grandchildren and a large number of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren."

Lidda Snapp married Andrew David Barker on 4 July 1911 in Hawkins County, TN. Her name was also spelled Lydda and Lydia on various censuses. She was Andrew's second wife and was much younger than him. Lydda and Andrew appear on the 1920 Hawkins County, TN, census; the 1930 Hawkins County, TN, census, and the 1940 Hawkins County, TN, census.

In her memoir, Lydda's sister Sarah wrote that Lydda did quite a bit of sewing and played the accordion a lot. Sarah also said Lydda was strong and healthy until she suffered a heat stroke one day in the summertime when they were hoeing corn. After that their parents would no longer let Lydda work in the fields.

Lydda and Andrew had the following children, according to the censuses:

Martha Love Barker born ca 1918
Hugh L. Barker born ca 1923

Andrew died in 1937 but Lydda lived until 16 January 1975. She never remarried.
