December 31, 1934 - March 9, 2016

Jeanette C. Carnes, 81, a resident of the Alger community, passed away on March 9, 2016 at St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham.

She was born on December 31, 1934 in Geddes, South Dakota, the daughter of Jacob & Thurma (Lancrain) Stotz. She was the eldest of 10 children. She was raised and attended school in Geddes and helped her mother raise her siblings.

On February 8, 1950 she was united in marriage to Eugene "Rocky" Carnes and together they traveled the country; they resided briefly in Kellogg, Idaho until settling in Bellingham in the early 1950's where they made their home until 1982 when they moved to Alger.

For many years Jeanette was a devoted wife and mother; then in 1973 she began working for the Georgia Pacific Pulp Mill, filling several capacities at the mill until her retirement in 1992.

Jeanette was an avid bowler, bowling twice a week on a senior league; she enjoyed cooking and baking and hosting gatherings for family and friends and she was an accomplished oil painter.

Jeanette is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Tammy & Jon Gunderson of Alger; her 9 siblings and their spouses, Barbara Marvin of Midvale, ID, Joyce & Harvey Henry and Jakie & Dale Boudreau of Bellingham, Janice Knittel and Diane & Jim Tedder of Clarkston, WA, Judy & Jim Lewis of Culdesac, ID Joe & Linda Marvin of Vancouver, WA, Charles & Kathy Marvin of Weiser, ID and Paul & Cathy Marvin of Council, ID. 4 grandchildren, Jon Gunderson, Jr. (Katie), Jeanette Austin (Bryan), Beverly Gunderson and Ben Gunderson (Megan); 6 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Eugene "Rocky" Carnes, infant son, Ronald, son Rick Carnes and step-daughter, Lucille Moody.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, March 18, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Bow Cemetery with Pastor Dave Browning of the Christ the King Church officiating.
