Mr. David Curtis Nickolie, of Lyndon Station, Wisconsin, passed away at the age of only 57 years 6 months and 14 days on Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at Belmont Nursing Home in Madison, Wisconsin, after a brief struggle with cancer.

David, the son of Walter and Audrey (Benfer) Nickolie, was born on August 23, 1958, at Ripon Memorial Hospital.

He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Neshkoro and raised in a Christian home.

David graduated in 1976 from Ripon High School and later graduated from Western Technical College in La Crosse with a degree in Culinary Arts.

David was a Country Kitchen restaurant manager briefly in Ripon and Fond du Lac before taking the position in Wisconsin Dells. He was awarded the Country Kitchen International Manager of the Year award for his dedicated service.

As a child, David had cancer of the spinal cord that after years of remission came back in 2000 which became a disability. Several months ago, the cancer metastasized elsewhere.

David was an avid sports fan of basketball, NASCAR and our beloved Packers. He enjoyed repairing items and tinkering. He was always willing to dig right in to solve mechanical problems.

David is survived by:

…brother,
……Dan Nickolie of Madison.

Also surviving are:
…his uncle and aunts,
……Gus and Valois Ponto,
……Betty Ponto and
……Mavis Ponto;
… and many cousins.

He is preceded in death by:
…his mother,
……Audrey Nickolie, nee Benfer in 2004.

A private graveside service will take place in the Nickolie family plot at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Neshkoro.

The family would like to thank his neighbors who looked after him in recent years, medical staff in Baraboo, UW Hospitals, the Belmont Nursing Home and especially the staff and volunteers of Agrace Hospice. Memorials can be made to Agrace Hospice or a Hospice of your choice.
