Obit: N. P. DuVal of Bairdstown died 19 September 1808 of a gunshot from a duel fought at Clarksville with L. Wilcoxson also of Bairdstown.
Newspaper article. The copy (Sept. 20, 1808), from the Kentucky Gazette in Lexington, KY was picked up from the Louisville Gazette of Louisville, KY. It appears it was run mainly as a discouragement of dueling and not as someone's death notice. It reads:
Dueling!!
On Monday morning last, Messieurs L. Wilcoxson and N. P. Duval of Bairdstown, decided an affair of "honour" at Clarksville, I. T. Mr Duval received the contents of his antagonist's pistol a little below his right armpit. The ball took such a direction as to evade the skill of the faculty; the unfortunate youth lingered until last night, and died a victim to a custom long execrated and condemned by every gentleman of refined sentiment.
