BULLS GAP - Irene Campbell Hendry, 89, of Bulls Gap, died Monday.
She taught Home Economics and English at Bulls Gap High School for 33 years and taught Sunday school at Bulls Gap Baptist Church for more than 50 years.
Those who have known her have been blessed by her sweet spirit, compassion for others and her sense of humor," her family noted.
She was a daughter of the late J.T. and Mary Leona Campbell and the widow of James Buford Hendry.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Freida and Edward Sempkowski; two grandsons: Blake Sempkowski and Wade Sempkowski, both of Morristown; a sister and brother- in-law: Pauline and John Justice of Knoxville; a sister-in-law: Mary Campbell of Powell; three nieces: Nancy Matthews and Joyce Barnett, both of Bulls Gap, and Mary Ruth Galloway of Mosheim; and six nephews: Dr. Charles Campbell of Oak Ridge, Jim Campbell of Fairfax, Jim Justice of Knoxville, John Justice Jr. of Oliver Springs, Phillip Campbell of Powell, and Stephen Campbell of Nashville.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Campbell and Archie Campbell.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. today at Bulls Gap Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be held at 11 o'clock Wednesday morning in Hamblen Memory Gardens.
