(1) BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH ABOUT (CAPTAIN) THOMAS STEVENS (3rd): THOMAS STEVENS 3: Thomas 2; Thomas 1, born probably Stow [Massachusetts], about 1690, married in Plainfield, Conn. on Nov 8, 1716, Amy Fellows, daughter of Ephriam & Anna (Cross) Fellows. He died there Dec 8, 1781. He was Representative to General Court- almost continuously from 1738 to 1762, at which time he was expelled on account of his being a member of the Separatist religious group. In 1736 he was appointed Lieutenant of the Militia and was commissioned Captain in May 1741. He was administrator of his father's estate in 1744. He was sometimes called Thomas Stevens 3rd to distinguish him from his uncle, Thomas Stevens of Stonington, Conn, who married his maternal aunt, Mary Hall.

(2) LAND RECORDS IN PLAINFIELD, CT INVOLVING [CAPT.] THOMAS STEVENS: Plainfield, CT got off to a difficult start when two tribes of Indians sold the same land to two different groups of settlers. Finally, in 1704, twenty four property owners agreed to throw all holdings into common ownership and to reapportion it by lot. John Fellows, Stephen Hall, homas Stevens, Sr., and Thomas Stevens (who was son of Henry Stevens and husband of Ruth Hall) were named in the list.Thomas Stevens, Sr. was one of those selected to lay out 40 lots of 100 acres each. On 2 Jan 1766 Thomas Stevens, son of Thomas Stevens, Sr., sold to son Rozel (Roswell) Stevens two parcels of land totaling 38 acres "Where I now live," located on the east side of highway on Walnut Hill. On 8 May 1772, Rozel Stevens sold to Solomon Dawes 7 acres of land deeded to him by his honored father, Capt. Thomas Stevens and his wife Amy Stevens, located on Walnut Hill. On 5 May 1761, Thomas Stevens of Plainfield sold/gave land to "my loving son William Stevens of Plainfield." On 4 Dec 1764, Thomas Stevens confirmed to sons Nehemiah, William and Rozel Stevens," all right, title, and interest in one estate lying and being in ye city of London in ye county of Sussex yn England yn Great Brittain yn Europe."
