ACCIDENTLY KILLED

While hunting squirrels

On Wednesday, last week, near Lingleville, Erath county, Robt. Kirk, Will Mitchum and Duke Carroll went squirrel hunting. Kirk and Carroll were behind Mitchum, who had on his shoulder a shotgun. The gun in some mysterious way, was discharged in the head of Kirk, whose brains were spattered over the ground, killing him instantly. Carroll was between Kirk and Mitchum and the concussion knocked him down. The two men were good friends, and had always been. Kirk leaves a wife and eight children. Mitchum has a wife and one child. Both men were members of the Methodist church.

Note: I believe that Duke Carroll in this article was Robert Alexander's first cousin, William James Kirk. William was living in Erath County at the time and was the only male Carrell who was close in age to Robert Alexander.

William and Robert shared the same grandparents, Stephen Carrell (1787-1846) and Anne Locke (1792-1866).
