The first was granted to Euphemia Van Pelt from Lowell Van Pelt. Mrs. Van Pelt was granted custody of their three minor children. The Van Pelts were married in Huron, Dec. 30, 1939.

Agnes E. Johnston Brodersen, age 94, of Huron, died Friday, March 4, 2016 at the SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron.

Her funeral service will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7 pm on Tuesday, March 8th at Welter Funeral Home in Huron; or Wednesday morning one hour prior to the funeral service.

Agnes was born on June 1, 1921 to Joseph and Elizabeth (Peck) Gainor in Huron where she was raised and educated in the Huron school system.

She married Lowell Van Pelt on December 30, 1939 in Huron. She later married Leo Johnston on August 25, 1949 in Huron and he adopted 3 children; Connie, Betty, and Phil.

Agnes worked at the Red Owl grocery store in Huron from 1958 until her retirement in 1973.

Agnes was united in marriage to Verne Brodersen on November 22, 1993 in Huron.

She loved spending time with her family and being active in First United Methodist Church and Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. Agnes enjoyed ceramics, fishing, making potpourri, crocheting, painting, and tending to her many plants and flowers.

She was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary and was a member of the Moose Auxiliary and Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church.

Agnes is survived by 4 children; Connie (Nick) Brod of Akron, OH, Phil (Mary Lou) Johnston of Clovis, NM, Erma (Jim) Wilson of Huron, SD, and Dawn Jensen of Vermillion, SD; 10 grandchildren, Nikki (Jeff) Zehner, Jason (Melanie) Brod, Angela (Rodney) Drake, Wayne (Kathleen) Wilson, Bob (Jennifer) Wilson, Christy (Cullen) Knight, Aaron (Lenora) Johnston, Troy (Tabitha) Johnston, Josh Jensen, and Shane (Margaret) Jensen; and 23 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step father, Elwood Shroyer; 1 daughter, Betty Jean Johnston on July 24, 1974; 1 granddaughter, April Dawn Johnston on August 26, 1969; 1 sister, Catherine (Milburn) Ferguson; 1 brother, Charles (Ellen) Gainor; her husbands, Lowell Van Pelt on June 17, 1957, Leo Johnston on December 2, 1991, and Verne Brodersen on October 18, 2004; 1 son-in-law, Larry Jensen on June 12, 1989; and many other family members.
