Last Rites Held for Frank Bogs
Last rites for Frank C. Bogs who died at his home here Monday, August 5 following a short illness were held from the First Lutheran church in Avoca Wednesday at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Joseph Gerlt in charge of the services. Burial was in Graceland cemetery.
Mr. Bogs went home from the Rock Hardware store last Friday when he did not feel well. His death came early Monday morning.
Frank Charles Bogs, the son of Herman Bogs and his wife Wilhelmina Sterns, was born February 3, 1872 in Coburg, Germany. He came to this country at the age of eleven and with his parents made his home in Iowa City. At the age of 18 he came to southwestern Iowa where he worked on farms for several years.
On February 3, 1893 he was married to Amelia Berge and for two years they lived near Iowa City then moving to the Avoca-Hancock community. Mr. and Mrs. Bogs farmed until 1924 when they moved to their present home in Avoca.
He is survived by his wife, four daughters, Mrs. Albert Rock, Avoca; Mrs. Sam Nielsen, Hancock; Mrs. Edwin Nielsen, Shelby; and Mrs. Frank Doll, Avoca. Other survivors are 13 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Ida Armstrong, Iowa City; Mrs. Mary Greulich, Iowa City; Mrs. Henrettia Schaedler, Charles City, one brother, Charles Bogs, North Liberty.
Preceeding him in death were an infant daughter Edith and a son Frank in December, 1922, one sister and three brothers.
Stores in Avoca were closed Wednesday afternoon from 2 to 3 p.m. for the funeral.
