Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mrs. Sara "Mama Sallie" Martin Johns, age 103, of Swainsboro, GA on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at her residence.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the Calvary United Methodist Church with Rev. Nick Hazelton officiating assisted by Rev. Ricky Rushing.
Interment will follow in the Swainsboro City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 5-7 PM. "Mama Sallie" will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers are Charles Flanders, Walt Allen, Vaughn Riner, Otis Smith, Bill Carmichael and Jerry Fagler. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Calvary United Methodist Church Past Ministers and Wives, and the Annie B. Hayes Sunday School Class members.

Born September 28, 1912 in Bulloch County, GA to the late George W. Martin and Mary Angeline Morris Martin, she owned and operated a drapery and slipcover/upholstery business for 25 years. Previously employed at Gibbs Louie and Lillie Rueben Dress Shops in Orlando, FL in the Alterations Department, for 16 years as Alterations Supervisor with Dolores & Woody's Shop of Swainsboro, GA and authored "Memories Of A Share Croppers' Daughter".

"Mama Sallie's" greatest love was her church (Calvary United Methodist Church) and family. Her numerous friends were given the same considerations as her family. She did home sewing at night making articles of clothing for friends and neighbors often making no charge for her services. Never was she too busy to stop and listen and advise those who needed a few moments of her time. "Mama Sallie" loved being invited by her family, taking vacations and going along on camping trips. She added laughter, comfort and enjoyment with her quick wit, cooking skills and thoughtfulness.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew J. Johns; son, Joe Martin; seven brothers and two sisters

Survivors include:

Two Daughters: Pat Bedingfield (Wade) and Mary Deal Jones (Lester) all of Swainsboro, GA.

Seven Grandchildren: Linda Deal Capraun (David), Leon Keith Deal (Gina), Steven Deal (Debbie), Kimberly Bedingfield Foskey (Jerry), Karen Bedingfield Ross (Dennis), Debbie Martin and Terry Martin.

Ten Great-Grandchildren, 3 Great Great-Grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.
