Beatrice and her sisters Celia and Sarah were the daughters of Barney Amerman and his first wife, Lena Golden, who died between 1906 and 1909, probably in New Jersey. In 1911, when Bea (aka Bertha and Breyne) was 8, Barney and his second wife, Fannie, moved to Oklahoma with the three girls and their newborn son Harold. Ten years later, Bea married Harry Steinig, a young immigrant who had come to the University of Oklahoma to study medicine. By 1930, they were back east, in Brooklyn, where Bea was to live the rest of her life.
