Port Allegheny - Leland D. Stahlman, 81, of Laurel Lane, passed away Tuesday (March 1, 2016) in Sean Kean Manor, Smethport.

Born Oct. 7, 1934, in Emlenton, he was a son of James R. and Amanda E. Cowan Stahlman.

On Aug. 26, 1961, in Foxburg, he married Margaret E. Moyer, who survives. They were married 54 years.

Leland was a graduate of Emlenton High School, class of 1952, and from Clarion University in 1961. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education.

He was a veteran having served with the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957, and was stationed in Karlsruhe, Germany.

Mr. Stahlman was employed by the Port Allegany School District as a driver's education teacher for 30 years, retiring in 1991. He was also the co-owner and operator with his wife of Lee's Electronics (a Radio Shack franchise) in Port Allegany for 16 years, from 1983-1999.

Leland was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Port Allegany, where he served as an elder and deacon. He was a life member of the Port Allegany Fire Department, serving 50 years and was a member of the Fire Police, where he served as Fire Police Captain for many years. He was a charter member of the Port Allegany Lions Club where he held many offices and was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 460, Port Allegany. He was a former member of the McKean County Fire Police Association and former driver for the Port Allegany Area Ambulance Service. He and his wife Peg, also delivered Meals on Wheels.

He enjoyed traveling with his wife, especially taking cruises to the Panama Canal, Hawaii, Alaska and the Caribbean Islands. Of those cruises, his favorite was taking his entire family on their first cruise together. Another adventure he loved was sightseeing in France, Luxembourg, and Germany.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Margaret, are a son, David L. (Nicole) Stahlman of Port Allegany; two daughters, Diane S. (Sam) Dynda of Port Allegany, Debra S. (Tony) Gamboa of Bossier City, La.; nine grandchildren: Rachel (Kyle) Doutt of Smethport, Jillian Edgreen of Olean, N.Y., Bryce and Bryan Stahlman, Alex and Lauren Dynda all of Port Allegany, Alyssa, Dominic, and Amanda Gamboa of Bossier City, La.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Denise S. Leonard; two brothers, Robert and James Stahlman, and a nephew, Roger Stahlman.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the First Presbyterian Church, Port Allegany, with the Rev. Garen Smith, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany.

Memorials can be made to the Port Area Ambulance Service, Port Allegany Fire Department, or the First Presbyterian Church.
