The 1930 U.S. Census confirms the Monahan family was still living in Kings County, Brooklyn, New York as of April 1930. Details were recorded for 8 members of the family:

JAMES MICHAEL MONAHAN-age 38, was born in New York, and his parents were both born in Ireland. (His parents were Patrick and Bridget Monahan.)

MARY AGNES GALLAGHER MONAHAN-age 32 (not correct - she is 28 years old), wife, born in New York, and her parents were both born in New York. (Her parents were William Gallagher and Agnes Theresa Hall.)

James and Mary's household included six children as follows: FRANCIS-age 8, HELEN-5, MARGARET-4, AGNES-3, ANNA-2, and PATRICK-0. (Zero indicates an infant less than 1 year of age. Patrick had been born July 25, 1929 and was now 9 months old.)

Since the birth of each child occurred at home, an official Birth Certificate was not customarily recorded. The six siblings born in Brooklyn relied on Baptismal records for confirmation of date/place of birth, and those records can be researched at:

James and Mary Monahan moved their young family of six children from Brooklyn to the Bronx sometime between the April 6, 1930 Census and July 1931. James and Mary welcomed 5 more children who were born in the Bronx: Peter in July 1931, Cecilia in 1933, Mary in 1934, Theresa in 1935, and Jerome in 1936.

The 1940 U.S. Census finds Mary Monahan still living at 499 Saint Paul's Place, Bronx, New York - located beside St. Paul's Episcopal Church (between 3rd Avenue and Washington Avenue). She is recorded as Head of Household with 11 children in her care.

The children were enrolled at St. Augustine Catholic School, 1176 Franklin Avenue, Bronx, New York and received the Sacraments of Holy Communion and Confirmation at Saint Augustine Catholic Church on Webster Avenue in the Bronx.
The 1940 Census took place after the sad events which hospitalized James Monahan during the winter of 1935-36. Mary Monahan was now alone with responsibility for 11 children.

As each child reached the age of employment, they were removed from school to earn an income and help to support the family. In 1942, it was Micki's turn to apply for work. She held various jobs in Manhattan and then found employment at a beautiful old movie theater where she crossed paths with a very handsome young man who also worked at the theater as an usher. His name was Richard DeBow, and he was the love of her life as she was his. They married and became parents of a daughter, Diane, and a son, Dennis. Sadly, Richard DeBow passed away suddenly in 1985 and Micki was left to watch her beautiful family continue to grow without this man she loved. The sadness of her death is made tolerable by absolute certainty that Micki and Richie are reunited. No two people could ever have been more perfect together.

Agnes T. DeBow died at her home in Brick, New Jersey on March 3, 2016. An obituary appears at the website of the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton Street, Somerset, New Jersey, Phone (732) 545-0700 and can be accessed here:
