Claude M. “Al” Alford, a longtime resident of Yorktown Heights, died on January 19, 2006 at Dobbs Ferry Hospital in Dobbs Ferry, NY. He was 84.

Mr. Alford was self employed at Al’s Lawn Maintenance for 40 years and was a truck driver with the Teamsters Union prior. He was a volunteer firefighter in Yorktown. Mr. Alford was born November 21, 1921 in Luverne, AL to Warner and Glennie Watson Alford. Mr. Alford served in the Army from 1942 to 1946. He was highly decorated and was awarded a Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart. He belonged to the American Legion and the VFW in Yorktown Heights.

On May 21, 1942 he married Lillian Grote in White Plains, NY. Mr. Alford lived in Yorktown Heights for the past 60 years. Before that he lived in Luverne, AL from 1921 to 1942. Mr. Alford will be remembered for his magnetic charm and benevolence towards all mankind.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian Alford, of Yorktown Heights, son, Claude “Bo” Alford, of Cortland Manor, NY, daughter, Sandra Renzler, of Kent, NY, grandchildren; Carla Renzler, of Greenlawn, NY, Robert Renzler of NY, NY, Nicole Renzler of NY, NY, Daynna Hebenstreit of Bloomington, IL, Hunter Alford of Daytona Beach, FL, Travis Alford of Yorktown, NY and various nieces and nephews around the country.

Family members who died earlier include: his grandson, Lance Alford, of Yorktown, NY, and brothers, Thomas “Woody” Alford of Yorktown and Sam Daniel “Buck” Alford, of Luverne, AL.

Calling hours are Saturday and Sunday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at Clark Funeral Home in Yorktown Heights. The Funeral is Monday, January 23, 2006 at 10 am at the New St. Patrick’s in Yorktown. Interment will follow at Amawalk Cemetery....
