From the Oct. 9, 1941 Gotebo Record:

Billie Maupin, of Cloud Chief, stationed with the US Army at Camp Barkeley TX,
died Monday, Sept. 29th at Camp Polk LA as the result of injuries received in
the 45th Div. maneuvers. Maupin was injured last Thursday afternoon when he was
run over by an Army truck, receiving a fractured skull. Maupin was stationed
with Battery D, 158th Field Battery, 45th Division. He was a PFC and gunner of
his crew. He had been in the Army since Sept. 16, 1940. He was born Sept. 18,
1918, a mile east of the Sharon Church in the Cloud Chief community. He
graduated in 1938 from the Cloud Chief High School. He was the son of Mr. &
Mrs. H.F. Maupin. Besides his parents he is survived by two brothers, Jesse and
Charlie, of Cloud Chief, and five sisters, Mrs. Carl Jones of Cordell, Mrs.
Walter Stutzman, Mrs. Uell Deputy, Mrs. Clarence Foster and Miss Susie Maupin,
all of Cloud Chief. Funeral services were held Sunday in the Methodist Church
at Cloud Chief, with burial in the Sharon Cemetery.
