Donald Ratcliff Goolsby, 90, of Hernando, MS passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2016. He was born July 19, 1925 in Leake County, MS. He was a World War II veteran and served in the Merchant Marine as well as the Navy. Moving to Memphis in 1948 began his long career with A&P Food Stores, which included moves to Louisville, KY and Indianapolis, IN. He retired as a Division Maintenance Manager and returned to Memphis. Retirement was not for him, though; shortly thereafter he was in his own business selling equipment, designing and consulting food stores. He was an excellent schoolboy athlete, an avid golfer, and lifelong Ole Miss football fan. He enjoyed all sports and coached youth baseball and basketball teams. He served as a deacon in Baptist churches and his wise counsel was sought by family and friends alike. Revered by his family and loved as a husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he will be greatly missed. He was predeceased by his wife, Clyde M. Goolsby and his brothers, J.C., Herman, and Kipling. He leaves his wife, Maggie Hall Goolsby; his son, Paul (Suzanne) Goolsby, and his daughter, Marilyn (Julian) Kelly of Memphis; his sister, Grayce Kimbrough of Jackson, MS, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, March 4 from 9-10 a.m., with the funeral at 10 a.m. at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Ave. Interment will follow in Memphis Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Church Health Center or to the charity of the donor's choice.
