Tyner and Alice Tyner Timmons, University of Oklahoma, Norman, OK. 1970, (Library of Congress No. QE99-C5-T97) Volume 1, pp. 107-8. [A public University that received taxpayer dollars for the program/product; thus it is presumed to be in the public domain.]

~Died after 1871; daughter of Alexander "Trader" McSwain b. 1740 and Nannie (Fawling) Downing b. abt 1746-50.

She married abt 1796, Avery Vann Jr. (buried at this cem.), *see his gravesite for their children.

Listed on the 1851 Old Settler roll: Saline, 23 as Peggy Vann (1896 p. 285); Clan: Wolf (H. Fawling); 1/4 Cherokee.

Margaret McSwain and Avery Vann were parents to 13 children, all reached adulthood. Daughter Sally Vann became great grandmother of Will Rogers.

Her husband, John Rogers was mistaken for a Treaty signer and was murdered. Son Joseph Vann served as Vice Chief in Cherokee West with Chief John Ross. Son David Vann was Cherokee Nation Treasurer and was murdered by PIN Indians 1863.

(Th)ey had sons fighting on both sides in Civil War. The Vann's built a very nice home at Rose. Daughter Betsy and husband David Rowe later bought it. During the Civil War he hid near their home because Pins were trying to murder him also. Margaret's sister, Elizabeth McSwain was my 4th great grandmother.
