La Nea Schofield, 87, of Blackfoot, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at her home after a valiant battle with breast cancer.
She was born August 4, 1928 at Afton, Wyoming to Joseph and Eliza Pearl Hale Michaelson. She attended school in Afton, graduating from Afton High School. Following graduation she moved to Lovell, Wyoming and worked as a waitress for a while before moving to Idaho Falls to live with her sister.
While living in Idaho Falls she met Jay Schofield. They were married November 21, 1950 in Idaho Falls. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on May 24, 1969. Jay preceded her in death on May 8, 1997.
La Nea was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She has served as a Primary Teacher, Stake Relief Society Secretary, Ward Sunday School Secretary and Visiting Teacher Supervisor. She was also an active member of The Daughters of The Utah Pioneers where she served in many different callings.
She worked as a waitress in Afton, Wyoming and Idaho Falls. La Nea loved her calling as a mother and homemaker and worked as a stay at home mom until her children were old enough to allow her to work outside her home. She worked as a bookkeeper for Kirkham Auto Parts, as a cook at Mountain View Middle School, as a kitchen manager at Irving Kindergarten.
She enjoyed embroidery, crocheting, gardening, quilting and especially enjoyed watching the Utah Jazz and BYU games. She loved the times spent with family, supporting her grandchildren and watching them participate in their activities.
La Nea is survived by her children: Katherine Arnn, of Blackfoot, Mark Jay (Carrie) Schofield of Blackfoot, Joseph Blaine (Diane) Schofield, of Tooele, Utah; son-in-law, Donald Ray, of Idaho Falls; two sisters, Helen Stevens and Eva Bateman, both of Utah; 12 grand children and 17 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, LuAnn Ray, her parents, two brothers, Willis and Millard Michaelson and two sisters, Maureen Anderson and Bernice Woofley.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 7, 2016 at the Blackfoot Stake Center, 1650 Highland Dr., Blackfoot. The family will meet with friends and relatives from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Hawker Funeral Home and again for one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Grove City Cemetery.
