Ralph Ables Dalton, 89, of Boaz, Alabama, died on February 27, 2016. He was born in Round Mountain, Alabama and grew up in the Guest and Fyffe, Alabama area of Sand Mountain where he attended Fyffe High School. Drafted into the U.S. Army in 1944, he served in combat in Europe during the winter of 1944-1945. His unit, the 89th Infantry, was among those that liberated Ohrdruf, the first concentration camp encountered by Allied Forces. After his honorable discharge, he returned home and subsequently graduated from Jacksonville State Teachers College. He married Louise Nance of Anniston, Alabama and enjoyed a long career at Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, Alabama. He returned to Sand Mountain after his retirement and lived in the area the remainder of his life. He was preceded in death by all of his siblings: sisters, Annie Ruth Robertson, Mary Nelson, Venice Turner, and Nona Gregory; and brothers, James Dalton and Paul Dalton. He is survived by his wife of 76 years; two sons, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral: 3:00 p.m. March 5, 2016 at W.T. Wilson Funeral Home, Rainsville, Alabama.
