LESLEY ANN (nee Ruggles) BAILEY-GATES died on March 1, 2016, at age 68, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was born in Akron, Ohio on April 18, 1947, the first of two children of the late Robert R. Ruggles and Anne M. (Mechla) Ruggles of Aurora, Ohio.

Lesley grew up in Euclid, OH but lived for three years in Newton Mearns, Scotland. Shortly after returning to the US, the family settled in Gates Mills.

Lesley graduated in 1965 from Mayfield High School in Mayfield Village, Ohio. She went on to earn a degree in Fine Arts from Syracuse University in 1969 and joined Xerox that year in Cleveland where she met her husband Paul. They married in 1972 and moved to San Francisco a year later where their two sons were born: Christopher in 1976 and Geoffrey in 1979. They moved across the Bay to Piedmont, CA in 1982 where Lesley worked as an aide in the town's grammar schools.

She was also active with the Boy Scouts, the Garden Club, the Piedmont Area Republican Women, book clubs, walking groups and other organizations. Lesley taught for eight years at the St. Paschal Baylon School in Oakland but left in 2000 for a position as an HR Coordinator for Kaiser Engineers, later AECOM and retired from there after eleven years. She was admired by many and will always be remembered for the way she would light up the room with her happy optimism, her intellect and great sense of humor, infectious laugh, warm heart and genuine concern for others. She had many interests including travel (visited 22 countries and 49 states), reading, politics, and arts and crafts but she enjoyed the simple things in life most: a walk in the morning, preparing a good meal, time with friends.

Her family always came first. She leaves behind her mother, Anne M. Ruggles and her brother Robert A. Ruggles of Aurora, Ohio, her husband Paul C. Bailey-Gates of Piedmont, CA, their two sons: (1) Christopher S. Bailey-Gates and his wife Sally (Heyward) and their two daughters Charlotte Anna and Darcey Elizabeth all from Guildford, England; (2) Geoffrey S. Bailey-Gates of Piedmont, CA. A viewing will take place on Thursday, March 3rd from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the TABONE-KOMOROWSKI FUNERAL HOME, 33650 Solon Road, Solon, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at the Cathedral of Christ the Light, 2121 Harrison St., Oakland, CA on March 12th. Interment at the Cathedral Mausoleum.
