Joan Carol Biela, 25, a purchasing agent in Holyoke, dau of John Biela and Adele Charrette [SIC Charette]; married on 19 Aug 1967, at Shelburne, Franklin, MA, William A Martin, 26, son of Alan Martin and Veronica Stone. First marriage for both. William died in 1969.

She married, second, John G.. Petcen, on March 17, 1972, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Easthampton, and they celebrated 29 years of marriage together before his passing.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Joan Carol (Biela) Petcen, 74, formerly of West Street, Easthampton, Massachusetts, and a resident of Surf Scooter Drive in Daytona Beach, died Monday, Feb. 29, 2016, at the Port Orange County Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, after a courageous battle of failing health.

She was born Dec. 26, 1941, in Holyoke, Massachusetts, and was the daughter of the late John Steven Biela and Adelle Irene (Charette) Biela. Joan was educated in Saxton River, Vermont, at the Kurn Hattin Private Elementary School and was a graduate with the class of 1959 from Bellows Falls High School in Vermont, and received her associate's degree in business from the former Northampton Commercial College.

Joan was retired from the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Leeds, Massachusetts, having worked there for more than 30 years as the manager of the purchasing department.

She married the love of her life, John George Petcen, on March 17, 1972, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Easthampton, Massachusetts, and they celebrated 29 blessed years together until John's death Nov. 8, 2001. Together they were inseparable, whether enjoying horse racing on opening day at the Saratoga Race Track, golfing, traveling trips to Las Vegas or to their winter home in Daytona Beach. She was a communicant at the Catholic Church of the Epiphany in Orange Glow, Florida.

Joan is survived by her loving family, a brother Harry J. Biela and his wife Kolburn "Kolla" of Virginia Beach, Virginia; a sister Joyce Straw and her husband Timothy "Erik" of Florence, Massachusetts; her sister-in-law Mary Parzych of Coventry, Connecticut; her dear aunt Carmen Charette; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, several cousins and many friends.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Joan will be held Tuesday, March 8, at 10 a.m. with celebrant Rev. Father William Hamilton, at the Our Lady of the Valley Parish, 33 Adams St., Easthampton, Massachusetts, followed by burial at the Brookside Cemetery in Easthampton, Massachusetts. At her request, there are no calling hours, family and friends are asked to meet directly at the church. The Graham Funeral Home, 18 Adams St., Easthampton, Massachusetts, has honorably been entrusted with Joan's arrangements.

Donations in Joan's memory are requested, in lieu of flowers, to the VNA Hospice of Cooley Dickinson, 168 Industrial Drive, Northampton, MA 01060.
