Phyllis Ophelia Nolan was born April 22, 1937, in Coalgate, OK, to James Clayton and Muriel Rose Reddell. She went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 28, 2016.
Phyllis married George Nolan on October 21, 1955, in Stilwell, OK, and they shared over 60 years together. She was a homemaker for many years, caring for her children who were her pride and joy. She worked to help George complete college at NSU and earn his doctorate in Physical Chemistry at the University of Arkansas. Upon his graduation, they moved to Bartlesville, OK, where George was a research chemist for Phillips Petroleum. They later made their home in Tahlequah, OK, where George was employed as a chemistry professor for NSU for over 40 years. Phyllis was a good sport, as George enjoyed telling his students that she tipped the scales at over 300 pounds, which he loved, because she was warm in the winter and shady in the summer. Students were definitely surprised to meet her for the first time.
Phyllis successfully owned and operated Nolan’s Jewelry for over 20 years. The jewelry store was more than a business venture to her – it was an opportunity to pray for people and invite them to church. Phyllis served her Lord in many capacities, including a jail ministry, which was dear to her heart. She loved her church and faithfully served in the nursery for many years, loving on babies like they were her own.
Nothing was more important to Phyllis than God and family. She spent countless hours in prayer and was passionate about sharing Christ. She was generous, selfless, and the epitome of unconditional love. She loved her family and she loved people, as evidenced by the many lives she impacted.
Phyllis is survived by her husband George, 5 children, 11 grandchildren, 7 and soon-to-be 8 great grandchildren, one sister, and many friends and family.
Funeral services are 10:00 am Thursday, March 3, 2016, at Cornerstone Fellowship. Interment will follow at Park Hill Cemetery under the care of Green Country Funeral Home.
