he served in the Confederate Army as a part of the 8th Virginia Infantry.
1900 Obituary: "Tuesday last 13th instant Zedekiah CARTER aged 88 years died suddenly at his home in the presence of his wife and grand-daughter Mrs. John BASLER of near Cockeysville. The funeral of the deceased took place Wednesday from Chestnut-Ridge, M. P. Church, Rev. BIXLER, pastor at Meadow Branch Dunkard Church, Carroll County, Maryland, had charge of the service. The pallbearers were: Joshua STULLER, Lewis JOYCE, Nathen GROVER, William CHILDS, John EBERT, Isaac AMBROSE. Interment was in the church cemetery. Abram W. ENSOR was funeral director. Mr. CARTER was born near Middlesburg, Virginia and during the Civil War, was in the Confederate Army. A widow aged 87 years and 5 children survive him."
