Nicholas Vander Mey was the son of William and Trijntje (Smit) Vander Mey. He was born in Illinois and moved with his father to Iowa after the death of his mother. He married Minnie Peters in 1894. Nicholas and Minnie had 2 children, William and Marie. Nicholas died in 1925 from pulmonary tuberculosis.
