Obituary: Teutopolis Press - August 12, 1937

MRS. JOHN B. BRUMLEVE

Mrs. John B. Brumleve, nee Hattrup, passed away at her home at 2304 Shelby Avenue, Mattoon about 9:30 A. M., Friday, August 6, 1937, after having been in failing health for the past several years. She was 73 years of age and had been blind and totally deaf for many years.

Funeral services were conducted Monday morning at 9:30 o3clock from the Immaculate Conception Church at Mattoon, with interment taking place in the Catholic Cemetery there.

Mrs, Brumleve will be remembered by many of the older citizens of Teutopolis as she was a former president of this village. She is survived by her aged husband, a retired railroad employee, two daughters: Helen and, Louise of Mattoon and nine sons: John, Joseph, Sylvester and Edward of Mattoon; Ralph of Charleston; Anthony and Ferd of Springfield; Al and Harry of Chicago.

Mrs. Brumleve was a sister-in-law of Frank Gardewine. There are also a number of other relatives living in this vicinity.

Mr. and Mrs, Fred Gardewine and daughter Judith and Miss Anna Nacke of Teutopolis and Mr. and Mrs. All Gardewine of Effingham drove to Mattoon Sunday to view the remains and visit with the Brumleve family. Miss Nacke remained to attend the funeral services on Monday, while the rest returned home Sunday afternoon.
