Bessie Gaine Ringwalt was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She married Frank A. Osburn, in Omaha in June of 1882. They lived in Detroit where her husband Frank was a pioneer in the wholesale lumber trade. Bessie and Frank also kept a summer home on Grosse Ile, Michigan which they called "The Lilacs". The house still stands today and is currently known as "The Samuel Lewis House" or "The Wedding Cake House".
